Program Overview

The The VPP Employee Engagement Program (VPP EEP) was created as a response to what is currently available in the line of “safety incentive programs.” It addresses and eliminates individual problems that the old programs had and works to be much more effective in helping your organization accomplish your safety goals and achieve VPP Star status and maintain it.

What Makes the VPP EEP Different From Other Incentive Programs?

Many current safety incentive programs include rewarding employees (often with cash bonuses) for going extended periods with no reported incidents. There are a couple of problems with this. More often than not, this type of program leads to under reporting of incidents. This has become such an issue, in fact, that OSHA may lead to corrective action if they discover your company using a program that leads to inaccurate recording in any of your safety documentation.

Also, using cash as an incentive is never a good idea. Studies have shown that employees tend to view regular “bonuses” as part of their income, and the cash will not act as motivation for them to change their behavior (but isn’t that what an “incentive” is all about?).

The VPP EEP differs from this structure entirely. It focuses on using on-the-spot recognition of safe work practices with positive reinforcement. By offering a variety of quality rewards to modify employee behaviors and attitudes long-term, you will begin to develop a culture of safety in your organization.

How Does the VPP EEP Work?

The VPP EEP targets Five Key Safe Behaviors identified by OSHA to be highly effective and influential. The Five Key Safe Behaviors are:

1) Attitude of Safety

2) Actively Sharing Safety

3) Attire of Safety

4) Atmosphere of Safety

5) Attending Safety

The VPP EEP uses color coded Safety Recognition Cards to identify the Five Key Safe Behaviors. These Safety Recognition Cards are awarded to employees on-the-spot for demonstrating any of the Five Key Safe Behaviors. The back of the Safety Recognition Cards provides examples on why the employee would be awarded the card. This on-the-spot recognition and positive reinforcement encourages open communication between employees and management. Employees who have been awarded a Safety Recognition Card can redeem the card for a VPP prize.

There is also an optional raffle ticket portion on the back of the card to be used at your own discretion, whether you want to provide a raffle prize at the end of the month or at the end of your campaign. Lastly, the VPP EEP is ready to be implemented the day you receive it. You will also receive promotional posters to help promote the program around the facility and generate awareness. How Can I Order My VPP EEP Package?

The VPP EEP is broken down by packages depending on the size of your facility. Packages include prizes and Safety Recognition Cards that correspond to the Five Key Safe Behaviors identified by Levels. The price sheet in the link below includes the available packages and prizes to choose from.

1) The Packages

Simply choose the package that best fits the total quantity of cards and prizes you need. By choosing Package A, you will receive a total of 50 cards and 50 prizes including – 20 cards and 20 prizes in Level 1, 20 cards and 20 prizes in Level 2, 5 cards and 5 prizes in Level 3… and so on.

2) The Prizes

Each Level within the package comes with an assortment of five different prizes that you may choose from. The higher the Level, the more valuable the prize. The price sheet in the above link will show you what prizes in each level are available to choose from. By choosing Package A, you can have a total of 20 prizes in Level 1 whether you want 20 pieces of a single prize or an assortment of prizes from that level totaling 20 pieces.

3) Optional Promotional Package When you purchase any of the VPP EEP Packages, you can choose to purchase (1) 4’ x 8’ Banner and (2) 11” x 17” Posters of the Elements of VPP at a discounted price. This package is optional but is discounted if purchased with any of the VPP EEP Packages. You may include your company’s logo or even a customer message at no extra cost!
